Itero announces partnership with Kerax to improve plastic waste recyclability
KERAX TO PURCHASE UP TO 5,000 TONNES PER ANNUM OF RECYCLED WAX product from ITERO’S netherlands plant
Itero, the advanced recycling technology company, today announces a collaboration with leading European wax manufacturer, Kerax to increase the recyclability of plastic waste. As part of the collaboration, Kerax has signed an MoU with Itero to purchase up to 5,000 tonnes/annum of recycled wax products that will be produced by Itero’s at-scale demonstration plant in the Brightlands Chemelot Campus, the Netherlands.
Founded in 2010 and based in London, Itero has created an innovative technology that converts hard-to-recycle plastic waste into valuable oils, wax, and gas that can be used as a raw material to produce new plastic and petrochemical products.
Kerax has signed an MoU with Itero to purchase up to 5,000 tonnes/annum of recycled wax products from Itero’s at-scale facility, which is due to come online in the second half of 2025 at the Brightlands Chemelot Campus, Sittard-Geleen, the Netherlands. This follows February’s announcement of COUNT Energy Trading’s commitment to purchase up to 19,000 tonnes/annum of the recycled liquid hydrocarbon products from the plant.
Since signing the MoU, Itero has been working alongside Kerax at its UK R&D facility to ensure the recycled wax produced will meet the quality standards required to replace petroleum derived waxes. In addition, the two companies are undertaking a feasibility study to explore the recyclability of Kerax’s cross-linked polystyrene waste using Itero’s advanced recycling technology. This plastic waste, as well as other post-consumer and post-industrial streams being sourced for the Brightlands Chemelot facility, are currently being sent to incineration plants and landfill.
Kerax CEO, Ian Appleton commented on the partnership: “Working with Itero has been a meeting of mindset and ambition - both parties aiming for the same thing - the recycling and repurposing of plastic waste back in to the circular economy, reducing waste and pollution through the creation of new raw materials.”

Itero CEO, Simon Hansford further commented “This collaboration with Kerax is a significant milestone in demonstrating the value of our Brightlands Chemelot plant, and is an important step in the realisation of a circular economy for plastics. Tackling plastic waste is one of the challenges of our time, and doing so in an environmentally friendly way is critical to many organisations around the globe. We look forward to growing our relationship with Kerax and to enhance the recyclability of plastic waste.”
